Duffy, Council Draft Legislation on Ren Square

Rochester, N.Y.) -- Rochester Mayor Bob Duffy met with City Council Friday morning to craft legislation to save $24 million in federal money for the Renaissance Square project.The deadline for the federal grant is July 31 and that money will be lost if City Council does not approve the project by that date.A spokesperson for City Council confirmed that the mayor and council will submit legislation on Wednesday regarding at least part of the property. However, it is not known which part that will be.Previously, Duffy has expressed concern over the inclusion of a performing arts center.At a press conference Friday morning, Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks said she was encouraged by the information. Brooks, a proponent of the project, was not involved in Friday’s meeting.
