LAKELAND - A Lakeland man stabbed his girlfriend's father to death this morning in front of a 5-year-old-child, the Polk County Sheriff's Office says..
Detectives are looking for Nicky Scott Tolzmann, 28. They say he should be considered armed and dangerous.
Authorities said Tolzmann and his live-in girlfriend, Leah Hockey, 23, got into a fight when they returned to their home at 5:30 a.m. after a night of drinking. Hockey called for her father to help, and Tolzmann stabbed 58-year-old Gene Hockey multiple times when he tried to intervene, deputies said.
Leah Hockey was not hurt.
"She was roughed up but she didn't go to the hospital," said Polk County Sheriff Spokesman Scott Wilder. "She's in good shape physically. But obviously, her father's just been killed and she's having a tough time right now.''
The slaying was witnessed by Leah Hockey's daughter, deputies said. She was not injured.
Tolzmann then tied up his girlfriend with an electrical cord and fled in Gene Hockey's 1993 beige Honda Accord, license tag X89-4TM, with two pit bulls, authorities said.
"She was tied up pretty good by our suspect before he left," Wilder said. "It took her a while to get out of those and then when she did, she called the police.''
Tolzman has an outstanding warrant for probation violation on a marijuana possession charge out of Georgia. Records show he's been arrested six times outside the state of Florida.
The sheriff's office says Tolzmann could be headed out-of-state, possibly to a southeastern state or Kentucky. He has a criminal history in Georgia and Tennessee, including burglary .
